CONTEMPORAINE 2018

His work focuses on the new artistic challenges of our globalised world in the digital age. Like an archaeologist-investigator, Arnaud Grapain gathers, explores, exhumes and exposes to the public residues and objects of our time. He then metamorphoses them into artificial remains that become witnesses of our contemporary globalised society.

The Data Center sculpture is here a metaphor for the protection of personal data in the management of our digital data for commercial purposes. For this project, Arnaud Grapain was inspired by Renaissance anatomical boards and huge computer server rooms, called data centres.

The artist brings to light the hidden aesthetic codes, whether they be the internal organs of living beings or the structure of digital communication networks. He uses computer cables as a parallel between digital networks and our neuronal system, both of which allow the continuous transmission of immaterial and personal data.
