Le 11e Prix MAIF pour la Sculpture a été remis hier à Arnaud GRAPAIN pour son projet Data Center lors de la soirée de remise organisée au MAIF SOCIAL CLUB (Paris), en présence des membres du jury, des artistes finalistes et de la communauté du prix.

His project will be carried out in bronze in two copies during 2019, a new experience for this young artist attracted by "the poetic force of the gestures of the foundryman" and the encounter with this medium new in his artistic practice. Arnaud Grapain will thus benefit from technical support from the chosen foundry, as well as the publication of a catalogue in 2019.

 Chaired by Dominique Mahé, President of MAIF, the jury of the 11th edition of the MAIF Sculpture Prize was composed of Manuel Delétré, workshop director of the Susse foundry, Marie-Anne Ben Maïz, honorary administrator of MAIF, Gaël Charbau, critic and independent curator, artistic director of Nuit Blanche 2018, Marianne Lanavère, director of the Centre international d'art et du paysage de l'île de Vassivière, Anne Langlois, director of 40mcube in Rennes, Chiara Parisi, curator for contemporary art exhibitions at the Villa Médicis and the artist Marc Vellay.

Cinq artistes souhaitant réaliser une première oeuvre en bronze avaient été sélectionnés au mois de juin dernier : Arnaud Grapain, Chedli Mahdaoui, le duo Segondurante, Michaël Sellam et Aurélie Slonina. 

Ils ont chacun réalisé une maquette de leur projet et une vidéo de présentation, exposés pour la première fois au public jusqu’au 22 septembre 2018, au MAIF Social Club, Paris. En marge de l’exposition, trois ateliers-visites ont été proposés aux jeunes de 5 à 12 ans pour découvrir les savoir-faire de la sculpture en bronze.
